George R. R. Martin
Reinventing epic fantasy with morally complex characters, ruthless plotting, and a world where no one is safe.
Biography
George R. R. Martin is an American novelist and screenwriter born in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1948, best known for A Song of Ice and Fire, the epic fantasy series adapted as HBO's Game of Thrones. He began his career writing science fiction short stories in the 1970s before turning to fantasy with A Game of Thrones in 1996. His work is celebrated for its morally gray characters, unpredictable plotting, and willingness to subvert genre conventions. Often called 'the American Tolkien,' he has redefined modern epic fantasy with a grittier, more politically complex approach.
