George Orwell

George Orwell was the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair, a British novelist, essayist, and critic known for his lucid prose and opposition to totalitarianism. Born in Motihari, India in 1903, he served as a colonial police officer in Burma before becoming a writer. His two most famous works — Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four — have become cultural touchstones, with terms like Big Brother, thought police, and Orwellian entering everyday language. Orwell's commitment to truth-telling and democratic socialism made him one of the most influential political writers of the 20th century. He died of tuberculosis in 1950.
